Strainrite Upgrades Cartridge Hardware to a Higher-Temperature Grade
The Strainrite Companies is pleased to announce a transition of polypropylene cartridge filtration hardware to a higher-temperature grade of resin. The upgraded material is rated for continuous service at temperatures up to approximately 220°F* (104° Celsius)— a meaningful step up from the previous 180°F (82°C) rating that has been standard across our polypropylene product line.
The change is being rolled out across polypropylene cartridges we manufacture, including rings and collars, cartridge end caps and core structures. This change does not include the P-Flange and Madd-Maxx element hardware. Customers will see no change in dimensions, sealing behavior, or part numbers — only an extended operating envelope on the same product they already specify.
* Maximum temp for the SP Felt is 200F (93° Celsius)
* Maximum temp for NMO is 194F (90° Celsius)
Why we made this change
Polypropylene has always been one of the most versatile materials in liquid filtration: chemically resistant, cost-effective, silicone-free, and clean for high-purity work. But the traditional 180°F service limit has become the constraint in a growing number of modern applications. Our customers have been asking for headroom, and we listened.
The new grade opens the door to duties that were previously borderline or off-limits for a polypropylene element, including:
Water for Injection (WFI) systems in pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical manufacturing, where fluids and equipment routinely cycle at or near 176-194°F (80°-90° Celsius) and where periodic hot sanitization pushes temperatures higher still. The 220°F envelope gives WFI users comfortable margin for both continuous operation and sanitization cycles.
Hot fill and hot process operations across food, beverage, personal care, and specialty chemicals.
Hot solvent, hot resin, and hot coating streams in the paint, ink, adhesive, and coatings markets that Strainrite has served since 1978.
Elevated-temperature process water and DI/RO polishing loops where the previous 82°C ceiling forced customers into more expensive housings or media grades.
For our high-purity and cGMP-aligned customers in particular, this is a meaningful upgrade. WFI compliance under USP <1231> and equivalent international standards routinely requires sustained operation at temperatures the previous polypropylene grade could not confidently support.

What changes on your specification sheet
The new maximum continuous service temperature for some polypropylene cartridge hardware is ~220°F (104° Celsius), replacing the previous 180°F (82° Celsius) rating. Datasheets across the affected product lines are being updated now and will carry the new rating going forward. Legacy datasheets remain valid for elements shipped before the transition date; the physical product from that date forward carries the new envelope.
